SLACKCOUNTRY CUP 5 | RECAP + GALLERY

With high temps and even higher vibes, #SlackcountryCup5 took to the slopes above Baldy Mountain resort this past weekend. The 60 plus competitors were treated to 2 Baldy style cat-board runs where they were critiqued on flow, style, and technical line choice. Most importantly the judges were looking for riders having a blast (This was hard to judge, as everyone seemed to be grinning ear to ear.) Pow slashes, cliff drops, butters, tomahawks, and laughter filled the day and when the dust settled Tristan Hanson was crowned King of the Slack, and Stephanie King was our queen. Each of them took home $500 bucks for their efforts.

The fun wasn’t over, as the sun began to set on Saturday we got set for a Hip jam under the stars. Pentagon team rider Braeden Nyhus took home the $200 cash purse for stomping a massive Backflip, and a couple of huge grassers. Sunday mornings hangover cure was a split board race from the base of Mount Baldy up the west flank of the resort to the top of Eagle chair. Racers had to collect Potatoes (yup, you read that right... potatoes!) hidden along the way before transitioning and riding back to the base. Burton Rider Tristan Hansen completed this task in 38 minutes and 40 seconds while his better half Kate Ediger did so in 50 minutes even.

Once more we opened up the hip to competitors and eager baldy staff to entertain spectators under that warm Okanagan sun. Pat Hrivnak took home the Anon Optics best trick award with a huge backside three.
