10th Annual Beaver Valley Banked Slalom | Recap + Video

The Ontario snowboard community closed out its season with a record turnout for the 10th annual running of the Beaver Valley Banked Slalom in memory of Jackie Snarr.

The famed "Banked" race together with the Vans So Hip "Best Method" contest and the all new "Rail Jam", together attracted 440 participants for the single day event. Hundreds more came out to ride BV's renown parks, socialize and take part in the charitable fundraising activities supporting the new, local Markdale Hospital ($11,000 raised); the Dillon Ojo Foundation helping kids to snowboard ($5,000 raised); and the Jackie Snarr Snowboard Support Fund ($5,000 raised).

Keeping things fresh and exciting, this year's event featured new, side-by-side "Banked" courses, allowing more riders to participate, including 60 "Super Groms" aged 4-12. The "Best Method" and "Rail Jam" showcased 100 of Ontario's best park and street riders above the Club's party deck battling for $4,000 in prize money courtesy of Vans, Bosse Snow Parks / BosCon, OnEx and Kawartha Metals.

In the Banked event, Beaver Valley's World Cup rider, Michael Nazwaski recorded the fastest overall time for the third year in a row. Hannah Kilmer-Choi scored the fastest women's run. Beaver Valley's Stuart Smith topped the Super Groms with the fastest time of the day. Vans rep Stu Cameron won the Union Bindings Industry category.

There were lots of standouts in the Rail Jam and Best Method contests. Taking the cash in Best Method were Mike Rotseart and Ayden Swan, in men's and women's respectively. The Rail Jam was divided into Upper & Lower sections. In the men, Adam Cohen took the Upper section, while Chris Mullens grabbed the Lower. In the women, Dani Brown dominated both sections.

Over the past 10 years, the Banked Slalom has grown to become Ontario's largest annual snowsports event, one the biggest of its kind in the country. Looking forward to see what the next decade brings!
