RED BULL HEAVY METAL, DETROIT | RECAP + GALLERY

The Red Bull Heavy Metal snowboard competition in Detroit was wild, with thousands of fans witnessing the single-day destruction of Hart Plaza. Under sunny skies and an electric atmosphere, the riders lit up three heavy spots and fed off the energy of an eclectic crowd that came to party.
In the women's division, Egan Wint killed it and took home the 10K, with Jaylen Hanson and Maggie Leon hot on her heels for second and third. The men's division was about Pat Fava, who dominated every section, with Ryan Paul and Luke Winkelmann coming in second and third.
Joe Sexton, the competition director, said, "It was so cool to watch all the riders feed off each other and try harder and harder tricks. And it was incredible to see how Detroit supported snowboarding and to see the local riders taking full advantage of the opportunity, holding their own against the pros with the hometown support they definitely felt from the crowd."
Bombhole royalty Chris Grenier and E Stone emceed, while a star judging panel featuring Jess Kimura, Seth Huot, and Scott Blum oversaw the event.
Red Bull Heavy Metal was one for the books. The passion for snowboarding in Detroit was palpable. And as the legacy of this iconic event lives on, it will be tough to top.
