REQUIRED VIEWING | The Bruners Video 3

We're doing this new thing, 'REQUIRED VIEWING', where every two weeks we post a video that we think snowboarders near and far need to watch. Regardless if you're new to snowboarding, or completely committed to it, it's important to recognize the creative building blocks of our culture. What constitutes a video being selected can be either the riding, the filming, the editing, or the soundtrack - or best case, a nice mix of 'em all. When it all comes together, it's something worth revisiting time and time again. To start things off, we're chosen a special video from one of the most significant Canadian street crews of all time, The Bruners. Watch The Bruners Video 3, our first 'REQUIRED VIEWING', below.

Year: 2018
Riders:  Seb Picard, Mas Seguin, Nic Roy, Axel Stall, Vince Grandmaison, Dillon Ojo, Russell Beardsley, and Emile Veilleux
Filming/Editing: Julien Choiniere

The most significant thing about The Bruners Video 3 is that it is dedicated to their good friend, and an inspiration to us all, Dillon Ojo. The opening segment, a beautiful ode to one of their best friends, can be difficult to watch without shedding a couple tears. The following snowboarding feels enriched by his friendship - I think we can all say that for this video, and for all since and before, The Bruners were showing up for Ojo.

Following the amalgamation of The Headstones into the crew for The Bruners Video 2, the new iteration of The Bruners was working well, so it was only right that they decided it run it back for a third video. By this time, the filmer and editor Julien Choiniere was locked in. He's a magician with the fisheye, often found filming underneath or inside the spot when possible, and his choice to not use film or any sort of secondary camera set his videos apart. They really felt closer to a skateboarding video in that way; it's basically just trick after trick.

The spots are top tier. Everyone has their own flavour in their footage, with a nice mix of big spots and smaller unique looking ones. There's also a cool little China park demo section in the middle that helps break the film up a bit while feeling oddly reminiscent of videos from the early 2000's. Some beer drinking footage in this section further solidifies a nod to snowboarding films of the past.

All of videos from The Bruners are worth watching again, so start off TBV3 and then dive into some of their other videos
